The craze aroundWordledoesn’t seem to be slowing down any despite the fact that it’s been around for quite a while now. In fact, that craze has led tomore than a fewWordleclonesgetting released over the last few weeks, with the latest one being a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
The free word game, that gives users six tries to solve a daily word, has been massively popular, especially on social media. In fact, the game was so popular that theNew York Times recently purchasedWordlefor an undisclosed amount that is said to be “low seven figures.” It seems that there are quite a few developers out there that are hoping they can cash in the popularity of that game by at least getting attention on their own. The new Nintendo Switch clone is also trying to cash in by charging at least a little bit of cash for its version.

Words With Fredsisthe latestWordleClonethough it’s not relying on getting word of mouth through online browsers. Instead, this particular game popped up in the Nintendo eShop and is available for digital download for the Nintendo Switch for $1.
It appears the game’s name also happens to be a nod towards another popular word game that once gained quite a bit of notoriety thanks to iOS and Google Play users whodownloadedWords with Friendsto their mobile devices. While the name might be a nod toWords with Friends, it’s very clearly supposed to be thought of as very similar toWordleconsidering how the game is played.
The explanation of thisWordleclone makes no bones about the fact that it plays like the original. Users have six chances in order to guess the “randomly picked word” The description says that each wrong guess will allow users to get a hint and the images that go along with the game looks as though those hints come in the form of color coding similar to the original game. However, it stands to reason that users will be able to guess at multiple words a day in the Switch game.
Words With Fredsshowed up on the Nintendo digital store on March 3 and there does need to be a question as to just how long it’s going to be around. With the New York Times now financially backingWordle, the company might not take kindly to this clone earning money off the idea.
