Now that the upcomingWorld of Warcraftupdate is on the Public Test Realm, players can experience some of the new patch there. While participating in Dreamsurges, players have encountered some Druids of the Flame–corrupt, fiery villains who sided withRagnaros inWorld of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Years later, it seems the Druids of the Flame are back with a vengeance.
The Druids of the Flame were a faction who followed Fandral Staghelm in his rebellion against the rest of his fellow Druids duringCataclysm. Though Staghelm himself was defeated during the Firelands raid, some of his followers apparently survived. With Fyrakk likely aiming to burn down Amirdrassil, thenew World Tree inWorld of Warcraft, in Patch 10.2, it is no stretch to imagine the Druids of the Flame teaming up with the Primalists and the Primal Incarnate himself to accomplish this goal.
There may be more to the return of the Druids of the Flame, however. Players have datamined updated assets for new outfits and character customizations inspired by the Druids of the Flame. These assets may purely be for NPC use, but it is possible players could collect this armor and unlock these customizations in the future. While it may seem strange to let players customize their characters with traits used by villainous factions,World of Warcraftis letting Draenei unlock Man’ari Eredar customizations, so anything is possible.
Players will have to wait and see what role the Druids of the Flame play–and if they can unlock any of their character customization options–when Patch 10.1.7 releases. Its predecessor, Fractures in Time, only just launched, so Fury Incarnate probably still has a couple of months of development before it releases. Judging precedent and clues, the next update will likely arrive no later than the middle of September, possibly earlier. Players can expect an announcement forWorld of WarcraftPatch 10.2some time not long after, with the patch itself planned for some time before the end of the year.
