Ever since the game’s humble beginnings, the tale of Mankrik and his wife has been an honored tradition of Barrens chat and theWorld of Warcraftcommunity as a whole, but one particular plot development inDragonflighthas the players especially thrilled. Those who want to experience it firsthand can play the originalquest line inWorld of Warcraft Classic, though the story is well known to most fans by now. Mankrik would send players off to find his missing wife, but the lack of quest directions and the huge size of the Barrens prompted many newcomers to infamously ask for directions in chat, spawning one of the first and oldestWorld of Warcraftmemes.

ThoughWorld of Warcraftplayers would discover the grisly fate of Olgra at the end of the quest, it would take until the release ofCataclysmfor Mankrik to finally recover her corpse and bury his wife, struggling to move on and set his rage aside. Horde players could aid him in his vendetta against the quillboars, but over the course of his rampage in the Southern Barrens, a shaman named Mahka helps Mankrik settle his fury and find peace.

As the dialogue shows, it would seem that a decade after Olgra’s burial, Mankrik has finally moved on to potentially find new love with Mahka.Shadowlandsplayers who completed Maldraxxus will remember that Olgra has a small cameo in the western part of the zone, and through theMurder at Castle Nathriaexpansion forHearthstone, it’s ironically implied that she doesn’t know her husband is still alive. No doubt she would want him to move on and find happiness in life again, which makes this long-running side story elicit such a powerful response from theWorld of Warcraftfandom.

In addition to the Trading Post, Patch 10.0.5 is introducing the ability for players totransmog white and grey items inWorld of Warcraft. The overwhelming impression concerningDragonflighthas been positive. It’s no secret that players were deeply unhappy withBattle for AzerothandShadowlands, which makes the humbled direction ofDragonflightso refreshingly exciting. Though a small gesture, bringing some peace to a beloved fan-favorite figure such as Mankrik will go a long way in Blizzard’s attempts to regain the trust of its fans.
