World of Warcraftplayers have found a new secret tucked away in a corner of the Orc Heritage questline. This hilarious discovery inWorld of Warcraftis an unexpected callback to an Easter egg that traces its history all the way back toWarcraft 2.
Patch 10.0.7 recently hitWorld of Warcraft, bringing with it new story content, side quests, and activities to complete. One of the most exciting parts of the new patch was the Orc Heritage questline. During this story, players help to revive a tradition from the Orc’s ancient history, gathering representatives from all the clans together in a grand celebration of culture and comradery–the Kosh’harg festival.

However, an unexpected clan made a guest appearance during theOrc Heritage event inWorld of Warcraft. Keen-eyed players discovered a curious flower behind the barracks of Razor Hill in Durotar. When they approach the area, a Mysterious Orc appears, places a Mysterious Flower in their inventory, and whispers, “You saw nothing.” The flower’s tooltip also states that “the legends are true,” confirming this secret as a reference to the Flowerpicker Clan.
The Flowerpicker Clan is an Easter egg originally found inWarcraft 2: Beyond the Dark Portal. During the campaign, each of the eight colors of Alliance or Horde troops is associated with a different Human kingdom or Orc clan. That said, the blue team of orcs never appear in the game inBeyond the Dark Portal. When players datamined the name of this team, they found it was called the Flowerpicker Clan.
A reference to the Flowerpicker Clan alsoappeared inWarlords of Draenorbeta. Players could find a Mysterious Flower in different zones of Draenor. Interacting with it caused nearby Iron Horde enemies to panic and shout “the legends are true!” Sometimes a Mysterious Orc wielding a flower would then appear and kill an enemy before vanishing. Unfortunately, all of these references were removed from the game before the expansion’s release.
Some players were left scratching their heads when they first discovered the Mysterious Flower, but many diehard fans can’t believeWorld of Warcraftactually threw in a Flowerpicker Clan reference in the live game. The Easter egg had never actually been seen in canonWorld of Warcraftbefore, so their inclusion has lore implications that are as hilarious as they are significant. Many Orc fans are wondering ifthe Flowerpicker Clan will be developed more in the future–perhaps if the Druid class is made available toOrcs likeWorld of Warcraftdid with Priests–or if they will remain an enigmatic group with a penchant for herbalism and secrecy.
World of Warcraftis available now for PC.
