Often regarded as the all-around best Healing class inWorld of Warcraft, the Priest gets some powerful buffs to both its Discipline and Holy specs – but Blizzard didn’t leave Shadow in the dust. In fact, withthe new Priest SoD Runes, Shadow shows some serious DPS potential. But ultimately, the best Priest Runes are still healing and support-based.

In Phase One, there were a total 12 SoD Priest Runes, available for the Chest, Legs, and Gloves slots. In Phase Two, six more Priest Runes were added for the Boots and Belt slots, making for a total of eighteen across all five. This guide details both the effects and locations of all Priest SoD Runes added in Phase One and Phase Two.

Updated May 17, 2025 by Erik Petrovich: As players prepare to enter the third phase, and pick up new Runes, Phase 1 SoD Priest Runes and Phase 2 SoD Priest Runes aren’t going anywhere. Though we don’t yet know if there will be an easier way to get the first two phases' Runes in P3, the original methods to get Priest Runes from SoD hase One and Two should still work. What hasn’t remained the same. throughout the numerous WoW SoD patches. are the specific effects of the P1 and P2 SoD Priest Runes. This guide has been updated to specifically list all Runes available in the first two SoD Phases for Priests, and will no longer be updated to include later phases' runes. Additionally, the effects of these Runes have been updated to match their current in-game effects accurately, as of the publish date.

To preserve the sense of mystery intended for the Season of Discovery, each P1/P2 SoD Priest Rune location is hidden by default. Open the “Click to Reveal” box to show details on how to get all Phase One and Phase Two Priest Runes in SoD.

Mind Sear Rune

Tenebrous Epiphany

Renewed Hope, Empowered Renew, & Mind Spike

Renewed Hope Rune

To get the Unsettling Vision, and thus the Renewed Hope Rune, head to Desolace’s northwestern coast and kill Slitherblade Warriors. Once the Unsettling Vision drops, use Mind Control on a nearby Slitherblade Tide Priestess, which should unlock the Vision. Interact with it once combat ends to unlock Renewed Hope Rune.

Empowered Renew Rune

The Empowered Renew Rune, via the Prophecy of the Quickened Path, drops from mobs in two different zones. In Thousand Needles, Priests can kill any Grimtotem-aligned enemy for a chance to get the Prophecy. In the Alterac Mountains, Priests can kill any Crushridge Ogre to get the Prophecy. Once acquired, follow the normal Priest process by meditating to unlock the Rune.

Mind Spike Rune

To get the Mind Spike Rune (through the Psychosophic Epiphany),head to Desolace, and look for an extinguished Campfire just northwest of the Kodo Graveyard (slightly north of the “D” in “Kodo” on the map). Pick up the quest Highway Robbery, then go directly northwest to find Kormek’s Hut on the ridge overlooking the graveyard. Turn in Highway Robbery, pick up the next quest On The Lam, then head to Booty Bay.

In the Inn, talk to Tokal to continue the questline and pick up Cherry For Your Thoughts. Purchase some Cherry Grog from the barkeep and give it to her to continue onto the next part, No Honor Among Thieves.

Go to the border of the Wetlands and the Arathi Highlands and look for a boat underneath the Thandol Span bridge. Jump down into the water and interact with this boat to teleport to the far eastern shore of the Highlands. Talk to Illari Duskfeather, choose either Dialogue option, and kill her to get Illari’s Key. Open the nearby Illari’s Loot Cache to get the Rune.

Dispersion, Spirit of the Redeemer, & Pain Suppression

Dispersion Rune

To get the Dispersion Rune through the Prophecy of Imprisoned Malice, Priests will need help from a Rogue and a Mage. The Rogue must have completed the Master of Subtlety Rune to get Jai’s Charm, and must pickpocket various Trolls in Stranglethorn Vale to get the Mysterious Troll Scroll. Then, the Mage must use a Comprehension Charm to turn it into a Deciphered Troll Scroll.

Read the Scroll, then head to the Naga Fountain in southern Stranglethorn Vale at about (28.5, 62) and collect some Holy Sprint Water. ensure to have two Meditation Buffs active, then go to the Ruins of Zul’Kunda, the HQ for the Bloodscalp tribe in the far north of the zone. Avoid Gan’Zulah if he spawns, and look for a fountain at about (23.5, 8). Use the Holy Sprint Water on the fountain to unlock the Rune.

It’s worth noting that if another Priest has started this quest, they can share it with you to skip the first part of the Dispersion Rune requirements. In this case, you don’t need a Rogue or Mage’s help, and can start with the Naga Fountain portion.

Spirit of the Redeemer Rune

The Luminous Epiphany (and the Spirit of the Redeemer Rune) unlocks via the Phase Two Dark Rider questline. To begin, head to Ariden’s Camp in Deadwind Pass at around (52, 34.5) in the zone. Talk to the Dalaran Agent at the camp to get Ariden’s Sigil. He will ask you to recover seven Dalaran Relics from Dark Riders throughout Azeroth. Each of the Dark Riders is about as difficult as a Dungeon boss at 40, but because all classes have one Rune tied to the SoD Dark Rider, it’s not too hard to get a five to ten-man group together.

The Dark Riders can be found in Duskwood, Deadwind Pass, Swamp of Sorrows, Badlands, The Barrens, Desolace, and the Arathi Highlands. After killing each one, head back to the Dalaran Agent and give him the recovered Dalaran Relics. After completing each quest (which reward about 1.5g at Level 40), the Agent will give you a bag containing the Rune.

Pain Suppression Rune

To get the Memory of a Leader’s Betrayal, and the Pain Suppression Rune, you will need to collect four Echos throughout various zones across Azeroth.

In theScarlet Monastery Graveyard, the first Echo can be found in an enclosed area of graves in the main graveyard, to the left of the main path progressing normally.

In theArathi Highlands, the Arathi Echo can be found at Go-shek Farm, just southwest from Refuge Point, and southeast from Hammerfall.

InDustwallow Marsh, look for a Grave just north of the Theramore entrance to loot the Theramore Echo.

In theSwamp of Sorrows, almost immediately as you enter from Deadwind Pass, the Swamp Echo can be found on the eastern shore of the small pond.

After collecting all Echos, go to the Scarlet Monastery Library dungeon and look for four statues of a Warrior, Mage, Paladin and Priest in the second half of the instance. Put the Swamp Echo in the Warrior, the Arathi Echo in the Mage, the Theramore Echo in the Paladin, and the Graveyard Echo in the Priest statues. Then, interact with a Glowing Sphere that spawns to pick up the Memory of a Leader’s Betrayal.
