Leviathans

First off is the remains of the once-great ancient species calledThe Leviathans.InBreath of the Wild, players will come across the bones of these gigantic creatures, and there is even a side quest that revolves around taking photographs of their remains. The bones of the Leviathans are located in the Hebra Mountains, Eldin Mountains, and the Gerudo Desert. Later in the game, three Hylian Leviathan researchers would reveal their theories as to why the Leviathans died out. One believes that a great ice age ended the lives of the Leviathans, the other theorizes that it is probably because of a prolonged drought, and the third researcher claims a cataclysmic volcanic eruption. Apart from these theories, not much is known about what exactly these creatures are and why they went extinct during the events of the game.

Mekar Island

One well-known mystery inThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildrevolves around Mekar Island. This specific island is small and features a dead tree in its center with a pile of bones surrounding it. Of course, this in itself is already mysterious, but as the player approaches the tree by day, a bunch of Chu Chus will spawn, and at night several, Stal monsters will ambush the player. Initially, some players thought that defeating the enemies in the area would lead to something, but nothing happened even after the player defeats them all. Some speculate that Mekar Island might be hiding a Korok, but nothing was ever discovered about the mysterious place.

Mount Agaat

Another well-known mystery inBreath of the Wildis the mountain located in the west of the Gerudo Highlands called Mount Agaat as indicated in the map. However, players would soon discover that the game restricts access to the mountain, and those who would attempt to climb it would get a message from the game saying, “You can’t go any farther.” As of the moment, it is widely believed that Mount Agaat is one of the few locations inBreath of the Wildthat cannot be visited. It is a mystery why the developers decided to restrict access to the area, and some even speculate that maybe Nintendo is planning to release a DLC that will be set in the mountain, but althoughBotWreleased post-launch expansions, there was nothing about the mysterious mountain.

Typhlo Ruins

Although much of the player’s time inBreath of the Wildis set in open environments filled with scenic vistas and natural wonders. However, one particular part of the game is locatedin the Typhlo Ruins, which gave off a creepy and unsettling vibe. The ruins are located in the north of The Lost Woods and are mysteriously shrouded in complete darkness, forcing players to use torches just to see anything. Inside the ruins, there is a shrine, a large Hinox boss, and many other things that are worth finding. However, the mysterious part of the ruins is why it exists in the first place and why it is constantly surrounded by darkness and thick fog. Many speculate that the ruins are somehow connected to the Zonai tribe, which is the next unsolved mystery in this list.

Zonai Tribe

The Zonai Tribe has been a mystery inBreath of the Wilddue to the fact that no one can explain who they are and what happened to them. In the game, players will come across a tribe that the game calls the “Ancient Barbarian Tribe.” However, some players began calling them the Zonai Tribe given their connection to the Zonai Ruins that are located in the Faron region. In the Zonai Ruins, players will come across tons of ancient tablets, ruins, pillars, all with featuring the same symbols. However, any further information about the tribe and what happened to them remains one of the biggest mysteries inBreath of the Wild.
